About
Alfredo Avila took a Ph.D. in History at the National University of Mexico (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico UNAM). Among other distinctions, won the Maus Prize, the Francisco Xavier Clavijero Award from the National Institute of Anthropology and History, the Alfonso Caso Medal for his graduate studies, the prize of the Mexican Committee of Historical Sciences, and the National University Distinction for Young Scholars. He has taught at the National School of Professional Studies Acatlán (Mexico), the Institute of History of the National Research Council (Spain), the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas (Mexico), Georgetown University (USA), Buenos Aires University (Argentina), the University of São Paulo (Brazil), and the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at UNAM. He is a full time professor and researcher at the Institute of Historical Research of the UNAM. Specialist in the history of political culture and thought in early nineteenth-century Mexico, has published five books and several journal articles and contributions for collective books. He is the editor of Estudios de Historia Moderna y Contemporánea de México.
