Lilián’s is an associated Researcher in the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) as part of the Research Institute of Philology.
She obtained her Bachelor´s degree from the Universidad de Sonora (1997) and her M.A. and P.h. degrees were earned at the University of Buffalo, the State University of New York. Her doctoral dissertation was a study on the syntactic and semantic dimensions of complex constructions in the Yaqui language (2005), under the supervision of Robert D. Van Valin Jr. She has published the book “The Structure and function on Yaqui Complementation” (Lincom 2006), and three books as co-author including “Studies in Role and Reference Grammar” (UNAM, 2009) and “Breve Vocabulario Wixarika-Español” (Jaén, 2009).
Lilián’s research has addressed issues in the morpho-syntax of indigenous languages from México, and the study of the syntax-semantic interfaces in simple and complex constructions. Several studies have also explored the semantic (or pragmatic) motivation for choosing alternative syntactic structures. Her theoretical background falls on the side of functional and typological perspectives. She has been done fieldwork in Yaqui language since 1996, and now in other related languages.
In the present, Dr. Guerrero has two funded researches. The first one investigates specific argument structure aspects of Uto-Aztecan languages from the northwest of México and it’s founded by the Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT, 2009-2011). The second one is coordinated together with Dr. Carmen Conti and it examines the lexicon and morphological process of Huichol; this is founded by the Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional (AECI, 2010).
She has taught several courses at different levels, including Syntax, Morphology, Introduction to Language, Language Description, Linguistic Typology, Introduction to Role and Reference Grammar, at various Linguistics Departments in different universities, e.g. Posgrado en Lingüística (UNAM), Universidad de Sonora, Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (UAQ), Escuela Nacional de Antropología e Historia (ENAH), Centro de Investigaciones y Estudios en Antropología Social (CIESAS).
